The Only True Fear

How to not waste your life

Thought

One of the greatest mistakes a man can make is playing it too safe.

Staying in a situation or habit longer than he should because it’s familiar and therefore comfortable.

Most men die at 25, but aren’t buried until 75.

Benjamin Franklin

When you’re young with your whole life still in front of you, you think you have all the time in the world to get the life you want.

The days turn into weeks, then months, then years. Before you know it, your entire life passed you by and you didn’t take advantage of it.

Life is a lot like quicksand: if you stand still, you’ll be swallowed.

You see, comfort is more dangerous than failure.

The only true fear is a wasted life.

Mistakes should be embraced: they mean you’re living on the edge.

Don’t fear failing. You can always dust yourself off and try again. Always.

I want you to seriously reflect on your life and ask yourself, “What’s the one thing I’ve been putting off that I know I need to do?”

Maybe it’s getting fit, asking that girl out, or building your business.

Maybe it’s simply forgiving yourself.

That which you most need will be found where you least want to look.

Carl Jung

The thought of following through on this thing likely makes you feel nervous, that’s a strong indicator it’s something you need to do, especially if it’s been in the back of your minds for months or years.

If this is resonating with you, this is your call to action.

Don’t waste your life living as a zombie, going through the motions, waiting to be buried.

Imagine today is your last day and you’re begging God for another chance at life.

Lift your eyes from your mundane, day-to-day world and take a moment to gaze towards the endless horizon.

And remember:

Each day is a precious gift, live as such.

Tactic

Do you know what your perfect day looks like?

It’s a good writing exercise to reflect on this and write it down. The more detail you can provide the better.

What time would you wake up? How would you spend the morning? Are you alone or with your family? Are you working? Are you in the same city you currently live in?

Once you’ve written this out, examine the last week of your life.

The bigger the mismatch between your ideal day and your last week, the more likely you are off your path.

You see, when you use your GPS, the first thing you need to do is type in your destination.

Now you have a better sense of where you want to end up.

You can construct your life in such a way that your ideal day happens with a high frequency.

This is possible for you, but it takes planning and action.
