The Complete Man
The 5 core masculine principles
Thought
What constitutes the complete man?
Answering this question is the very reason why I write.
These newsletters are my investigation and evolving perspective on what makes a man complete. Put another way, what makes a man a True Man.
This question is so central to me because I believe in my bones that the greatest force for good the world has ever known and will ever know is a capable, virtuous man.
There’s an overwhelming lack of, and equally intense need for, men of principle in this world.
So, I seek out the answers to this question and I share what I find with you.
Together, we can set the world in Order. Creating paradise on Earth starts with you and me, my brother.
With this in mind, let’s examine these 5 core masculine principles:
1. Valor
The definition of valor is “great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle.”
If you’ve been living for any significant amount of time, you’ve realized by now that life is a battle.
Here’s one definition of life: A series of difficulties to overcome.
To face the day itself, a man needs courage, and facing the day is the prerequisite to winning the day.
You see, valor is the first principle because it’s the precondition for the rest.
Without courage, one can’t even begin.
With courage, every battle can be won.
2. Mastery
There are 2 things to master.
The first is yourself.
The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself.
The day that you can tell yourself what to do and you do it is the same day that you become unstoppable.
The second thing to master is the world. Seems like a daunting task, but what do I mean in a practical sense?
You must master the skills you require to operate successfully in the world.
This could be your means of making money or your ability to communicate with loved ones.
In simple terms, identify what you need to do and do it well.
3. Sovereignty
The endgame of mastery is sovereignty.
Once you master yourself, you’re free from vice and addiction.
Once you master the world, you become a master of resource acquisition and can therefore gain control over your time.
Sovereignty is having final say over what you do, when you do it, how you do it, where you do it and who you do it with.
A sovereign man is beholden to no authority other than God.
A sovereign man has a much easier time sticking to his principles because no external threat of poverty can be exerted on him.
4. Authority
True authority doesn’t come from some manmade title.
It comes through a man’s practice.
A man who is physically strong himself becomes an authority on physical strength. Similarly, a man with an upright practice becomes an authority on a virtuous life.
No one follows a hypocrite for long.
Authority is necessary for leadership.
To earn lasting respect, you must practice what you preach.
5. Vision
What is all of this for? Your life is but a brief flicker on the cosmic scale.
So, why do any of this at all?
Peasants think in days. Kings think in generations.
Your life may be a flicker, but it can exert an incredible force on the future.
A man must become obsessed with his legacy.
Found a dynasty. Instill these principles in your progeny.
Raise your eyes from the mundane and look to the infinite horizon.
